Why Deb Botruff Chose Dexter Cattle

Deb Botruff

Southeast of Memphis, Tennessee

Deb raises Dexters and Teddy Roosevelt Terriers.

Born in Virginia Beach Virginia, raised in the Mississippi Delta.

Raised in the Delta, we always had commercial cattle which we ran on the levee. I raised and showed registered horned Herefords as a child and into my late teen years.

I joined the USMC in 1983 and did my four year commitment.  I'm married with one grown daughter living in South Carolina.  I was an Air Traffic Controller in the USMC, owned my own retail grocery store after my military life, stayed in retail until 1996.  My second career was a Paramedic which I enjoyed until 2006.

I have always raised livestock, from AQHA horses, ABGA/IBGA Boer Goats and registered and commercial cattle. I've been involved with cattle most of my life, in our elder years, we wanted something easier to manage and heartier.  The search netted the Irish Dexter Cattle Breed which I have owned and managed since 2011, our herd is composed of three bulls, forty cows and various steers.

We'd raised cattle in earlier years but coming into our more senior years, wanted a breed of cattle that were smaller and sustained themselves with little interference.  The Irish Dexter Cattle do just that!  Triple purposed as grass fed beef, milkers and work oxen!
